2017 Show Results

The Wessex Shetland Pony Group held the first show of the 2017 season in our brand-new venue and it was appreciated by everyone who attended.

Glenda Spooner Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre is home to the World Horse Welfare. It is located on the outskirts of the ancient, Royal town of Wessex, Somerton, situated in the heart of the rural landscape of South Somerset.

They care for and rehabilitate around 65 horses and ponies at any one time with the aim to find them loving new homes, and take approximately 100 horses through their doors each year, including those returning from homes. The farm has had a recent re-development and their new facilities will help them rescue and rehabilitate even more horses.

They work across the UK with horses, horse owners, the veterinary profession, sport bodies, law enforcement and government to promote and protect the welfare of horses. Their dedicated network of Field Officers investigate and resolve thousands of reports of horses in distress made to their Welfare Line each year. Sometimes this can be as simple as advising owners, and where necessary they will take horses into their care.

They are the UK's largest horse rescue and rehoming charity, and at their four Rescue and Rehoming Centres horses in need can receive urgent and specialist care. Once the rehabilitation programme is complete, they hope that every horse or pony in their care can find a loving new home through their rehoming scheme - as valuable companions, competition horses, and everything in-between.

This lovely venue which offers an in-house café, toilets and plenty of parking was a success and we look forward to our summer show.

Competitors are able to walk around the visitor centre where we are able to see some of the ponies and horses in their care.

We are extremely pleased to see so many Young Handlers and children in the ridden classes, we would like to thank their connections for supporting them and allowing them to attend the shows. It is lovely to see their progression through the year, we do understand that it can be an exhausting day for the younger ones and sometimes for the parents! We thank you very much for your continued support and hope to see you all again next year. These classes are great to add confidence and prepare for other shows.

We had a lovely show of Young Handlers in both of the age range classes and the Ridden classes were also well supported.

Wessex Summer Show - Sunday 21st August 2017

We had a lovely day at the Glenda Spooner Farm Equestrian Centre, the weather was very kind to us even though we had had a lot of rain leading up to the event and parking in the field was dubious, but on the day the sun dried everything and we were ok.

We had a wonderful amount of entries and exhibitors in all of the classes.

The summer show is the one at which we award the Wessex Shetland Pony Group perpetual trophy’s, one for each of the class winners.

Wessex Autumn Show - Sunday 29th October 2017

The last of the Wessex Shetland Group shows was held at Kingston Maurward College Equestrian Centre,

Dorchester. A great day was held for all who attended. We had a lovely lot of competitors and had a wonderful ‘first’ with a child riding side saddle in the lead rein class.
